SPACE 101 Gallery was formed by Brew House resident artist members to present a vibrant and diverse cross section of regional and national art. We strive to make contemporary visual arts accessible to everyone in the community by presenting a wide variety of exhibitions spanning all media and including artists in all stages of their career(s). Exhibitions have ranged from street-inspired multi-media works and figurative oil paintings to interactive sculpture and all things in between.
Artists interested in exhibiting at SPACE 101 are invited to apply. SPACE 101 hosts three (3) regional Prospectus exhibitions each year open to artists living within 150 miles of Pittsburgh. The next deadline for receipt of Prospectus applications is September 7th, 2008.
Proposals for the Special Projects Room, adjacent to the main gallery, are accepted on an ongoing basis. Click here to download a PDF (or here for a jpeg) of the 2007-2008 Prospectus and Special Projects Room Application(s).

The Distillery Program
The Distillery Program at the Brew House Association is an exciting new program that acts as a stepping-stone for participants as they move towards new phases of artistic production and career development. This pilot program addresses the current need for relevant career/professional development opportunities related to the arts as well as exhibition opportunities, and support for working artists by providing individuals with a supportive and dynamic arena in which to pursue studio practice, career development, and an exhibition opportunity in the SPACE 101 gallery during the 2007-2008 season.
Over the course of the six-month program, participants will engage in a series of workshops and dialogues on topics relevant to career opportunities in the arts with Pittsburgh art professionals at the Brew House. Participants meet regularly for studio visits and peer critiques, discussions with guest curators, critics, and other working artists. The culmination of these sessions will be a group exhibition of newly produced work by the participants at Brew House Space 101 Gallery. Barely Brunch
Every fourth Saturday of the month, for several years, a group of people, of all ages, from all walks of life, have been coming together to work from the figure. Using various techniques and methods, participants hone their skills, capture the essence of the human form, relax, and enjoy themselves. They also look forward to the break when they can have a cup of coffee, a glass of juice, some refreshments, and socialize with the other people present that day. There’s often a sharing experience where the artists voice their mutual appreciation of the work.To inquire by phone: 412-969-7689.

The Academy of the South Side
Founded in 2005, The Academy of the South Side provides year-round affordable, high quality instruction in painting and drawing through classes, workshops, open model sessions and artist residencies for students of all ages and skill levels. Housed in a beautiful studio on the 6th floor of the historic Brew House Association building, The Academy aims to not only educate but to inspire. Beginners and professionals alike develop and hone their skills through single classes or more concentrated study, building on a foundation of studio practice focusing on painting and drawing the human form from life.
The Academy of the South Side also provides unique opportunities to expand beyond portraiture and figure study, offering long pose classes of costumed models, adding character and flair to produce a more complete painting. To supplement the studio curriculum, The Academy will continue to host workshops and residencies of nationally-acclaimed artists such as our friend Sean Cheetham, bringing world class skills and experience to Pittsburgh. Students also will have opportunities to connect with the greater artistic community through our activities, as well as exhibition opportunities at The Brew House and local galleries.
Please check out our website at www.academyofthesouthside.com for more information and to register for classes.
