CRICK
May 11 - June 2, 2007

In Ross Nugent's exhibition "Crick" he explored the influence environment has upon the experience of a particular subject.  Specifically, light, sound and air are studied as they affect the interrior space of a decrepit barn.  The shifting patterns of light and whistling wind created by the splintered slats become the subject of investigation.  Ross employed a variety of camera techniques to capture the shards of daylight as they shine through, usually unrecognized by the naked eye.

SPECIAL PROJECTS GALLERY:

MUTABLE GLIMPSES
Maura Doern Danko

Danko's work is about the familial, and the intimate glance. She explores the idea of "view" in a categorically manner, and that our view is changeable - and fleeting, subject to relative perceptions. There is something ritualistic in her drawings, a prayerful consideration as one reflects on truths determined by glance.

SCULPTURES BY JULIUS HOUSER

Sculuptures by Julius Houser was presented in conjunction with the Independent Living Initiative (ILI). ILI is a program through the Executive Office of Allegheny County Department of Human Services. The ILI assists youth, ages 16-24, who are or have been in an out-of-home placement through Allegheny County Office of Children, Youth and Families. Seven ILI staff provide individualized services, such as assistance with post-secondary preparation and planning, job readiness, housing and a mentoring program.

I HAVE  ROOTS HERE
May 11 - June 2, 2007
Katherine Young displayed an installation in the Brew House Space 101 Special Projects Gallery, a 150 square foot space where emerging artists may explore and experiment.  Young’s "I Have Roots Here" consisted of hand-printed wallpaper that spans the bottom three feet of the entire room.  Her work blends the softness of feminine imagery and actions (the ornate flowers, the wallpapering) with the austere coolness of black and white prints.
